Tackling the urban heat island effect
AkzoNobel is actively addressing the urban heat island effect with innovative Cool Chemistry™ coatings for RUV4-5 applications. These solutions help cities combat rising temperatures by reflecting sunlight, reducing heat absorption, and improving energy efficiency. This technology is available in a broad range of colors, allowing architects to bring their vision to life with purposeful functionality.

Collaborating to develop heat-absorbing coatings
Through close collaboration, AkzoNobel has developed heat-absorbing coatings tailored to meet specific needs. A standout example is the Emergo project, where the Calosol solution reduced heat retention in a gymnasium in Almere (The Netherlands), significantly lowering internal temperatures.

Setting the standard in Coil Coatings
AkzoNobel is proud to be the first coil coatings supplier in EMEA to align with the new Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) standards. We ensure our products meet rigorous safety and environmental regulations, including RoHS and REACH standards, which require formulations to be free from chrome, formaldehyde, and heavy metals. This reflects our commitment to being your partner of choice for sustainability.

Future-proof packaging initiatives
Since October 2023, we’ve incorporated more sustainable packaging solutions, such as Green Layer IBCs (Intermediate Bulk Containers), at our Hilden site and other facilities across our global network. These innovative containers feature an ultra-thin inner layer that minimizes plastic usage while maintaining product safety and quality.
To date, approximately 9,787 IBCs have been used, transporting 26 tons of paint, and resulting in a CO₂ saving of 66.5 MT.
This initiative underscores our commitment to reducing packaging waste, improving recyclability, and supporting environmentally friendly practices across our supply chain.
